This post is already drowned in my draft folder for such a long time. I've even finished my two jars of kimchi. I was into Korean food at that time. Since it's quite pricey to eat outside and there wasn't any Korean cuisine in my town, I decided to make some at home so I can have it with anything whenever I want it. Even if it's just white rice.
It was just the right timing when my mom bought a napa cabbage and she didn't use it. So, I'll just have to scavenge any useable ingredients in the fridge/kitchen to get readeah!
This is the original recipe by the kitchn:
1 medium head napa cabbage
1/4 cup sea salt/kosher salt
Water
1 tbsp grated garlic
1 tsp grated ginger
1 tsp sugar
2 - 3 tbsp seafood flavour/water
1 - 5 tbsp Korean red pepper flakes
8 ounces Korean radish/daikon
4 scallions
Again, I have adapted the recipe for this is an unplanned cooking. In other words, I do not have certain ingredients. This also gave me an idea to #recipetweak !
What I did first was to clean my 1 medium head napa cabbage before slicing them into 2-inch-wide strips.
Then, I transferred the strips of cabbage into a bigger bowl (preferably not plastic or metal one) to make it easier to do the salting. If you look clearly into the photo, you can see the 1/4 cup of salt. You'll have to keep massaging the cabbage until they soften before adding in water until all the cabbage is all covered. After that, you'll have to get a plate or something flat and something heavy to compress the cabbage into the water for 1 - 2 hours. I left it for 2 hours. Maybe this is why it gets so crunchy at the end.
***** after 2 hours *****
You'll have to rinse those cabbage for three times and leave it in a colander for 15 - 20 minutes to strain out the water.
While waiting for the 20 minutes to pass by, you can mix the 1 tbsp of finely chopped garlic, 1 tsp pf finely chopped ginger, 1 tsp sugar and 3 tbsp water (I do not have seafood flavour) to make the smooth paste before adding in red pepper flakes.
Instead of using Korean red pepper flakes, I substituted it with Domino's red pepper flakes. I used around 3 tbsp of those red pepper flakes and I could taste the spiciness. You can actually add up to 5 tbsp.
Seasoning paste |
Then, go back to your cabbage and squeeze it to make sure that there is no excess water in it. After that, you may mix all the ingredients - cabbage, 8 ounces of carrot (to substitute radish/daikon), 2 scallions and the seasoning paste thoroughly.
Finally, you can have those kimchi evenly coated with spices packed into jars. Make sure that you leave at least 1 inch of headspace before you close the lids. You should leave the jars at room temperature for 1 - 5 days before putting it in the fridge. During the 5 days period, do check the kimchi daily to make sure that the kimchi is soaked in the brine and to let go some fermentation gases.
I actually tested the kimchi every day. When you have it right away, it's crunchier and juicier compared to five days later. In my opinion, the tastiest would be on its third day at room temperature. I regretted why didn't I put one of the jars into the fridge at that time. It had become too sour for kimchi on the fifth day.
When life gives you soour kimchi, make kimchi fried rice! |

Weights & Dresses,
I always have this question in my mind, "If everyone wanted to be an entrepreneur, to be the boss of their own company, who would be the workers then?"
It was just yesterday that I unexpectedly attended an e-commerce class organized by Selangor Information Technology and E-Commerce Council (SITEC) that talks about marketplace and entrepreneurship at i-City, Shah Alam. There were four speakers invited to share their insights into their field, namely Mr. Chan Kok Long from iPay88, a representative for Amazon US (Ms. Mavis if I'm not wrong), Mr. Andy from Youbeli and Mr. Shawn from 11Street.
I'm glad that I've made the right decision to attend this kind of class for the very first time because I can validify my perception in starting up a business. I personally enjoyed the talk given by Mr. Chan most where he started off by asking the members of the floor to throw him 10 questions. Then, he went through the questions one by one to solve their major doubts. Even thought the questions and answers are the typical ones that usually appears on a biography book, the feeling that you gonna feel when you are listening to the person speaking out words from his mouth is completely different. I guess it is the passion of the speaker's voice that differs from reading a book where you can only create your mental voices.
The other three slots were informative as well. For example, the eCommerce Business Model by Amazon US. I believe that if we were to start up a business, we would only commence the service within our own country rather than exporting out to other countries due to the shipping fees and etc. I was dumbfounded where Amazon can actually help you to internationalize your business. For more info, visit their page HERE. As for the talk on Marketplace in Malaysia, I think most of us are familiar with Youbeli and 11Street. I can forgive you if you do not know Youbeli but not 11Street. Their ads are all over the place in the net. And what's more if you are Lee Min Ho or HaHa's fans. But, there is one thing you might not know about 11Street is the perks that they have for sellers. Check out their FREE meeting rooms, cafeteria, photo studios, seminar rooms as well as online and offline classes HERE. I think I'm gonna sign up for their photoshop classes!
This e-commerce class reminded me of three SMEs I came across in Facebook. These three online businesses started in 2015 and they care for your health. They provide the similar service according to the busy lifestyle of people nowadays, which is to deliver the pre-prepared ingredients to the doorsteps of their customers. (Click the names to go to each of thier Fb pages) I guess online businesses are easier to kickstart nowadays. You can see them mushrooming through the net.
1. Nest's Box
The main ingredient in their products is bird nest. We all are well aware of the goodness that bird nest have which can nourishes one's health. However, not all of us know the right ingredients to prepare such a savourish dessert. Nest's Box knows it all. They'll have the recipe taken care of while the customers can enjoy a nice bowl of bird nest with ease.
This is more of oriental style I would say. They provide ingredients for soups. In my opinion, only mothers know how to make super duper good soup because they do not mind the hassle to prepare ingredients just for her family to enjoy. Daai Haam Shap Soups shares the same opinion. So, they deemed to simplify your life in making a bowl of soup just like your mom! (But, they haven't listed out any product yet. Maybe in the near future?)
3. Urban Stove
I would like to try this the most! What they do is to satisfy your tummy for dinner. The products they provide are fresh pre-portioned ingredients which only requires you to spend your significant 30 minutes in the kitchen to prepare a wholesome meal.
So, would you want to startup your very own business now? Or are you still insecure of uncertainty?
Join SITEC next workshop, Risk Management & Problem Solving which will be held today, 20th January 2016! Anyone can join for FREE. This event will be conducted in English.

I'm much into #flatlays recently. (might let you know the reason behind it) If you still no know about my latest craze, you can check out my IG post here, here, here, here and here or down below. Do give me a double tap if you love my creation too!
And this obsession actually reminds me of POLYVORE, a site which allow you to find out and make purchases for beautiful things in fashion, beauty, and home decor. I'm not quite sure for how long I've been signed up for this account but I'm very sure that I was in for a contest. What I SUPER like about POLYVORE is the feature that allows you to choose, crop and edit items you love and paste it together for a layout creation just like editors would do for their magazine! It's like a barbie doll game for adults - without the barbie it's 2D.
As for now, I'm using POLYVORE for two main things.
1. To keep my wishlists
So, here's my first wishlist for this year. I'm happy that I'm able to crossout some of it so soon!
Floppy hat
Here a photo of where you can see my face more than the hat. #dressingroomreview #zyinsteal |
I've been in love with floppy hat since it had become a must-have accessory item... but the price was way too over the budget for me. Till then I went to Cotton On last week and found this love for only RM6, A PRICE MARKDOWN FROM RM69! It was a steal!! I was like I have to get THIS!
- White button-up shirt
#dressingroom review |
#dressingroom review |
I love the material. I can be formal with the collar on. And I can also casually wear it on without buttoning all of it. Too bad that the embroidery at the back is not of my liking.
- Midi skirt (preferbly pleated one)
- Chain shoulder bag
- Ankle strap pointed toe with block heels
- Bralet
- Boots
- Graphic tee (wouldn't mind for unlimited supply)
This is not the nicest photo of the tee but what to do when I accidentally deleted it #dressingroomreview #zyinsteal |
Again I found this flirtatious tee at Cotton On. I firstly saw this at Sunway. It was RM30. Then, I found this for only RM15 at Aeon Klebang. Another 50% off after price markdown?
Here in one item which I really have to share even it's not in my wishlist.
Gotta workout to flatten the belly. #dressingroomreview #zyinsteal |
Just nice as a cheongsam for the coming CNY xD #dressingroomreview #zyinsteal |
My eyes are always fixed to midi dress whenever I saw them. I was afraid to get one... mainly because I'm short and I do not want to look any shorter. But, I thought I can give it a try in the dressing room... and I'm immediately in love with it... and the price of it, RM59 RM30!!!
So, hurry go to any Cotton On outlet nearby to grab your steal. I guess they are having stock clearance.
2. To record my #OOTD
I kinda like this way of sharing #OOTD now. First, I do not need to beg around for a photographer. Second, I can show off my talent in graphic design. Thirdly, I wouldn't have my IG follower spammed with my #OOTD post. I can now share them at Polyvore. Even though I do not own the fashionable items on the sets I created, I will search for items which are nearly similar to the one I wore.
So, how do you find POLYVORE?
If you're somewhat like me, quickly create an account and let's share ideas in mix matching. (you can find me by clicking the "FOLLOW ME POLYVORE" icon on the right sidebar.
If you already have an account, let me know so I can follow up with your creative creations.
